On November 14, 2022, the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Germany Mr. Omurbek Tekebaev visited “Biohof zum Mühlenberg” company and met with the General Director, Mr. Timo Wessels.
This company is engaged in the production of biogas and has three biogas plants. The raw material for the biogas plant is manure from its own farm, where there are 1,100 cows, as well as organic waste. As a result, the produced biogas is converted into heat and electricity sufficient to use and heat 2,000 homes. Wastes from biogas production are used as organic fertilizers in agriculture. In total, there are 10,000 biogas plants in Germany.
Kyrgyzstan is being a mountainous country and a developed animal husbandry, the use of biogas plants in the country is appropriate. According to Mr. Timo Wessels, biogas plants can be installed even if the farm has 2 cattle.
For the construction of a biogas plant in Kyrgyzstan on an industrial scale, appropriate state support is needed. At the same time, in order to increase the profitability of animal husbandry, as well as the use of gas in households, small biogas stations can be installed, the construction of which requires credit and technical support from the state.
Currently, there are about 70 biogas stations in Kyrgyzstan, including those built with the support of international organizations.
Increasing the use of biogas plants in Kyrgyzstan will have a positive impact on some reduction in energy dependence.
