On 1 March 2021, at the initiative of Kyrgyz side the Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva D.Mukashev met with the Director-General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mr.A.Vitorino.
Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic D.Mukashev expressed gratitude to the IOM General-Director for the comprehensive assistance provided by the organization to Kyrgyzstan in the field of migration.
D.Mukashev noted that the issues of migration of Kyrgyzstan’s citizens, ensuring their social and legal protection are among the highest priority for our country. In this context, D.Mukashev informed the Head of the IOM about the ongoing reform of migration policy in Kyrgyzstan; measures aimed at improving the migration situation in the country with specific attention to the issues of reintegration of labour migrants returning to the country, as well as measures to protect the rights and interests of children whose parents are in labour migration.
In his turn, IOM Director-General Mr.A.Vitorino positively stressed the ongoing reforms in Kyrgyzstan aimed at improving the migration situation in the country and assured that IOM would continue to provide comprehensive technical, expert and humanitarian assistance to Kyrgyzstan within its mandate, including to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, which has assumed the responsibilities for external migration.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on bilateral cooperation in the field of migration, outstanding challenges, as well as ways to find mechanisms to reduce the risks caused by migration processes.
Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic D.Mukashev, stressing the leading role of the IOM in the field of migration, and taking into account the high level of bilateral cooperation with the organization, expressed interest in the visit of the IOM Director-General to Kyrgyzstan in near future.
