On January 25, 2023, as part of a working visit to Karachi, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan H.E. Mr. Ulanbek Totuiaev held the bilateral meetings with the Chairman of the Karachi Port Trust, the President of the National Bank of Pakistan, the Chairman of the Pakistan Builders and developers association, the Senior Vice President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the leadership of large pharmaceutical companies of the host country.

During the meeting with the with the Chairman of the Karachi Port Trust Mr. Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda, the Ambassador H.E. Mr. U.Totuiaev proposed to consider the possibility of providing access for Kyrgyz companies to one of the largest ports in Pakistan.

The parties agreed on carrying out appropriate work between the interested bodies of the parties to implement this initiative.

During the meeting of the Ambassador H.E. Mr. U.Totuiaev with the President of the National Bank of Pakistan Mr. Rehmat Ali Hasnie, the parties considered issues of cooperation in the banking sector, including currency conversion and money transfers. The possibility of resuming the activities of the branch of this financial institution in Bishkek was discussed in order to give impetus to bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

The Ambassador H.E. Mr. U.Totuiaev also met with the Chairman of the Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan Mr. Muhammad Altaf Tai, during which the Pakistani side was provided with the information about the investment potential of Kyrgyzstan in the construction sector, the state housing construction programs implemented in the country, such as “My House 2021- 2026”, as well as the possibilities of building tourist facilities.

The Ambassador H.E. Mr. U.Totuyaev also met with the Senior Vice President of the Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mr. Suleman Chawla, during which the parties agreed to organize an online meeting between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Federation to discuss opportunities for expanding business ties and implementing joint projects. They also agreed on the participation of members of the Federation at the upcoming Kyrgyz-Pakistani business forum.

In addition, meetings were held between the head of the foreign mission of the Kyrgyz Republic and the leadership of large pharmaceutical companies of Pakistan – “Brooks Pharma” and “Indus Group”, during which the parties discussed the expansion of exports of Pakistani manufacturers to the market of the Kyrgyz Republic and further to the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. As a result of the meetings, visits of representatives of these companies to the Kyrgyz Republic are expected to study the possibility of establishing the production of pharmaceutical products in the Kyrgyz Republic.

As a result of the visit, an agreement was reached with representatives of the business community of Karachi regarding the participation at the forthcoming on March, 2023, Kyrgyz-Pakistani business forum, as well as on the organization of the additional visits of representatives of the pharmaceutical, construction, and agricultural industries to Kyrgyzstan.
