On February 21, 2022, H.E. Mrs. Aida Kasymalieva, Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN in New York, held a meeting with the President of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly H.E. Mr. Abdullah Shahid.
During the meeting, Permanent Representative Aida Kasymalieva expressed gratitude to the President of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly for her support in the unanimous adoption by the UN General Assembly of the resolution "On declaring 2022 the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development", initiated by the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as hope for supporting the initiatives of the Kyrgyz Republic in UN, including in promoting a new draft resolution on the "Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions".
The parties also discussed topical issues of cooperation and upcoming high-level events during the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.
In turn, President Shahid noted the leadership of Kyrgyzstan in promoting the mountain agenda in the UN and expressed readiness to provide all possible assistance in promoting the initiatives of the Kyrgyz Republic during his chairmanship.
We note that in June 2021, the current Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives Abdulla Shahid was elected President of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly by a majority of votes in the UN General Assembly.
