On June 8, 2020, Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to the USA Mr. Bolot Otunbaev took part in a telephone conversation between ambassadors of Central Asian countries and newly appointed Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State/Head of the Bureau for Central and South Asia of the U.S. Department of State Mr. Thomas L. Vajda.
During the conversation, the parties discussed the issues of counteracting the negative effects of the pandemic of COVID-19 coronavirus, strengthening regional economic cooperation. The Head of the Bureau Mr. Vajda requested the assistance of the «С5+1» countries in considering opportunities for greater participation of Central Asian companies in economic projects for the reconstruction of Afghanistan. The parties also discussed plans to hold a high-level virtual meeting of «С5+1» format.
Ambassador Otunbaev thanked the U.S. Government for assisting the Kyrgyz Republic in combating the outbreak of COVID-19 coronavirus, assured the U.S. side of its readiness to strengthen regional cooperation, while taking into account the national interests of the Kyrgyz Republic.
