Information message of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic on the settlement of the armed conflict in the border areas of the Batken region of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Sughd region of the Republic of Tajikistan

Upon an order of the Heads of States of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan towards the earliest resolution of the armed conflict in the border areas of the Batken region of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Sughd region of the Republic of Tajikistan, within the framework of the achieved arrangements between the Foreign Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan, on April 29, 2021, a working meeting of representatives of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan was held at the checkpoint "Kyzyl-Bel" (KR) – "Guliston" (RT).

  • From the Kyrgyz side: Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic O.Suvanaliev, First Deputy Chairman - Director of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic U.Sharsheev, First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic S.Omurzakov, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic A.Shamenov;
  • From the Tajik side: Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Tatarstan S.Yatimov, First Deputy - Commander of the Border Troops of the State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan R.Ahmadzoda.

During the meeting, the Parties, based on good-neighborly relations and previously adopted interstate agreements and arrangements, came to a mutual agreement on the following issues:

  1. The cessation of hostilities in the border areas of the Batken region of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Sughd region of the Republic of Tatarstan from 19: 30 hours on April 29, 2021, Bishkek time (from 18: 30 hours on April 29, 2021, Dushanbe time).
  2. Withdrawal of troops and military equipment from the border areas of the Batken region of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Sughd region of the Republic of Tatarstan to their permanent locations.
  3. Continuation of the negotiation process to stabilize the situation in the border areas of the Batken region of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Sughd region of the Republic of Tajikistan.
  4. Establishment of a joint working group consisting of law enforcement and executive authorities of the two countries in order to implement the planned measures and create appropriate stabilizing conditions for the further fruitful negotiation process in the interests of the two friendly peoples and States.

Following the meeting, the parties adopted a joint statement and signed the Protocol of the meeting.
