About cooperation of the Kyrgyz Republic within the CSTO

The Collective Security Treaty Organization is a regional international organization whose main activities are interaction in the foreign policy, military and military-technical fields.

At present, the CSTO unites Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.

CSTO in its activities is guided by the principles: priority of political means to the military, strict respect for independence, voluntary participation, equality of rights and obligations of member states, non-interference in cases falling under the national jurisdiction of member states.

The Organization actively operates the Collective Guidance mechanism to representatives of the CSTO member states in international organizations, which provide for the formation of common approaches to current issues of international security policy.

The purpose of the military cooperation is to ensure the collective and national security of the member states of the Organization by maintaining and readying the defense potential of each member state, the forces and means of the CSTO collective security system for the fulfillment of tasks for the purpose and timely response to possible challenges and threats to the national and collective security of the states- members of the CSTO.

The priorities of the Organization are interaction in the foreign policy sphere, development and improvement of the military component, countering international terrorism and extremism, illicit trafficking in drugs, weapons and other threats, as well as cooperation with international organizations and third countries in order to unite efforts for maintaining stability and strengthening peace.

On the territory of Kyrgyzstan, the United Russia military base is deployed in Kant, which is a component of the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces of the CSTO member states of the Central Asian region.

For Kyrgyzstan at the regional level, the CSTO is the main forum for military integration in the region and contributes to the joint resolution of security problems, the maintenance of peace and stability in the region. Kyrgyzstan intends to develop and strengthen regional cooperation in the military-political, military-technical and security fields with a view to maintaining stability in the Eurasian space.

In connection with the transition of Chairmanship on November 8, 2018 in Astana, following the results of regular session of the Collective Security Council of the CSTO, taking into account the principle of continuity and the interests of the country to form its priorities in the Organization for the next intersessional period, the main areas of cooperation were determined, in particular:

1. Expansion of cooperation in the field of foreign policy interaction.

2. Strengthening the capacity of the CSTO to prevent (resolve) crisis situations.

3. Improving the preparation and use of the CSTO Forces (Collective Forces).

4. Development of military-economic (technical) cooperation.

5. Countering modern challenges and threats.

6. Information support of the CSTO activities.
