On March 28, 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic together with the OSCE Academy in Bishkek organized an online lecture for students of the OSCE Academy and the Diplomatic Academy of the MFA.

The event is timed to coincide with the first International Day for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Awareness, announced by the United Nations General Assembly on December 7, 2022 on the initiative of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The Director of the James Martin Center for Non-proliferation Studies, Professor William Potter was invited as the main lecturer and delivered a lecture on «Nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation issues».

In his statement, Professor William Potter paid special tribute to the Kyrgyz side for its contribution in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation, in particular for the initiative to declare the International Day.

The leadership of the OSCE Academy also noted the initiatives of the Kyrgyz Republic to promote regional and international cooperation, conflict prevention and effective governance in Central Asia.

In turn, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic once again emphasized the need to educate the general public about the security architecture in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation and to use education as the main tool for creating an environment security, conducive to human development.
