Delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Aibek Moldogaziev is attending the 29th Meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council

On December 1-2, 2022 delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Aibek Moldogaziev is attending the 29th Meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council convened in Łódź, Poland.

On December 1 Head of Kyrgyz delegation delivered a speech at the Side Event on Climate Change and Security in Mountain Regions organized by the OSCE Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid.

Deputy Minister Moldogaziev informed participants about the challenges that mountain regions are facing due to climate change. Namely, he drew attention to the challenges such as intensive melting of mountain glaciers, mountain lakes’ outburst, possible rise of the frequency of disasters such as landslides and avalanches, lack of water resources and potential risk of the disputes among countries, risk of agricultural downturn and food security.

Aibek Moldogaziev stated that aiming to strengthen cooperation on these challenges and problems the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov initiated declaring 2023-2027 as the “Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions”. Respective resolution is currently under consideration of the UN General Assembly session.

Deputy Minister also informed participants about other international mountain initiatives of the Kyrgyz Republic as well as its national activities. He emphasized that this year was declared the “Year of protection of mountain ecosystems and climate resilience” in our country by Presidential decree. Cabinet of Ministers adopted the Road map on observation of this year. One of its basic aspects is “Zhashyl Muras” (Green Heritage) program whereby the Kyrgyz Republic will plant over 5-6 million trees annually which are the natural holders of moister in mountain regions.
