The People's Republic of China (PRC) is a country in East Asia. The capital of the country is the city of central subordination - Beijing, which is the political, economic, educational, cultural and historical center of China. The population of the administrative territory of Beijing, defined as the total number of people living in the city on legal grounds for more than 6 months, it is more than 23 million people.

China is the largest country in the world, with more than 1.38 billion citizens, the majority of whom, more than 92% are ethnic Hanzi (19% of the world's population) the remaining 8% are representatives of 55 small nationalities living in the country.

Administratively, the PRC is divided into four cities of Central subordination (Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing), twenty two provinces, five autonomous regions (Xinjiang, Tibet, Guangxi, Ningxia and Inner Mongolia),which are united by the term "mainland China", as well as two special administrative regions (Xiangan, Aomen) and Taiwan.

The country is the third largest country in the world by total area, after Russia and Canada. China is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, one of the leading space powers in the world, has nuclear weapons state and has the world's largest standing army.

In 2010, China`s economic rate surpassed by Japan`s economy in nominal GDP and became the second largest growing economy in the world. China`s economy has been the largest in the world since December 2014 in terms of GDP and has the largest gold and foreign exchange reserves on the planet.

Since the proclamation of the PRC in 1949, the ruling party has been the Communist Party of China (CPC). According to the version of the Constitution adopted in 1982, the country is a unitary Republic, a socialist state under the democratic dictatorship led by the people.

Xi Jinping is the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China since 2012 and the Chairman of the PRC since March 2013.

The Supreme Executive body of the state is the State Council (Central people's government), which consists of the Prime Minister, his deputies, members of the State Council, Ministers, Chairmen of committees and Executive Secretary. The Premier of the State Council of China since March 2013 is Li Keqiang.

The Supreme body of state power is the National People's Congress (NPC), which consists of 2,979 deputies elected by the Local People's Congress. The Chairman of the NPC is Lee Zhangshu, who was elected in March 2018.
