On October 1, 2023, the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Ukraine, within the framework of protecting the rights of citizens, in honor of the International Day of Older Persons, carried out a consular visit to one of the oldest representatives of the Kyrgyz diaspora in Ukraine, citizen of the Kyrgyz Republic Galina Mikhailovna Voronova, who turned 82 years old in May of this year.
Being in old age, Galina Mikhailovna Voronova, under the martial law regime in effect on the territory of Ukraine, is independently raising her 6-year-old great-granddaughter Anna.
Just recently, Voronova was discharged from the hospital and cannot move independently.
As part of the provision of consular assistance, our compatriot was delivered and handed over a general passport of the Kyrgyz Republic, renewed by the Embassy due to its expiration. In honor of the international holiday, a basket with a food package was donated.
As you know, International Day of Older Persons is celebrated annually on October 1. This decision was made in December 1990 by the United Nations General Assembly.
The purpose of holding the Day of Older People is to attract public attention to the problems and needs of older people, maintain their sense of need in society, and increase public awareness about the demographic aging of society.
In Kyrgyzstan, the number of people over working age increases every year. This is due to the transition to retirement age of the generation born in the 1950s-1960s, which is larger than the military generation. Over the past five years alone, the number of people in this age group in the republic as a whole has increased by more than 117 thousand people, or 23 percent.
