On February 1, 2024, in Bishkek, regular Kyrgyz-Iranian political consultations were held at the level of deputy heads of foreign ministries of the two countries. The delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Avazbek Atakhanov, and the Iranian side was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Bagheri.

During the consultations, the parties discussed the current state of bilateral relations in the political, trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian spheres, the organization of visits at the highest and high levels, and also outlined the prospects for cooperation for the current year.

Regarding mutual cooperation in the political field, A. Atakhanov noted that Kyrgyz-Iranian relations are constructive and friendly, the countries are located in the same region and have a similar history and culture, and that they are interested in strengthening regional security and stability, sincerely striving for friendship and cooperation with all interested parties.

Much attention was paid to discussing issues of promoting trade and economic cooperation. In this context, the delegations agreed to provide each other with necessary assistance in the implementation of various projects in the transport, agricultural, logistics, and tourism sectors. At the same time, to enhance mutual trade, the importance of resuming direct flights between Bishkek and Tehran was highlighted.

The parties also exchanged views on a number of current issues on the international agenda and agreed to continue interaction on issues of regional cooperation at the UN, ECO, SCO, OIC and EAEU platforms.

In conclusion, the head of the Iranian delegation, Ali Bagheri, proposed holding the next inter-MFA consultations in Tehran.
