Political collaboration

Austria recognized the independence of the Kyrgyz Republic on 15 January 1992. The diplomatic relations between two countries were established on 25 March 1992. The Embassy of the KR was opened on 16 March 1993.

On 15 February 2017 Mr. Bakyt Dzhusupov was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the KR to Austria and Permanent Representative of the KR to the OSCE and other international organizations in Vienna.

On 26 October 2017 Mr. Gerhard Sailler was accredited Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Austria to the KR with residence in Astana.

On 25 March 2017 two countries marked 25th anniversary of the diplomatic relations establishment. Since 1992, thirteen bilateral agreements were signed.

Political cooperation

Since 1992 there were four visits of the Presidents of the KR to Austria.

In 2013 the Federal President of Austria Mr. Heinz Fischer paid an official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic.

On 25-26 May 2008 the speaker of the parliament of the KR Mr. A.Madumarov paid an official visit to Austria.

On 2 June 2016 a member of the Austrian parliament, deputy head of the Austrian delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and special representative of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly for Central Asia Ms. K.Muttonen visited Kyrgyzstan.

The ministries of foreign affairs of Kyrgyzstan and Austria maintain regular contacts and conduct political consultations. On 9 November 2016 General Secretary of the Austrian Foreign Ministry Mr. Michael. Linhart visited Kyrgyzstan.
