CONSEQUENCES AND PREREQUISITES OF VIOLATION OF THE PEACE BY TAJIKISTAN IN BATKEN DISCUSSED IN GENEVA

On October 10, 2022, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baisalov spoke at the Geneva Center for Security Policy with a detailed report on the tragic consequences of the attack on September 14-16 by the Tajik side on the peaceful villages of Batken region. Following a presentation by the Director of the Geneva Centre, a Swiss diplomat and former OSCE Secretary General Ambassador Thomas Greminger, a discussion took place on possible ways to use the tools of diplomacy in resolving disputes between countries.

The event was held as part of a series of “Geneva Security Debates” of the Geneva Center for Security Policy at the initiative of the Permanent Mission of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva.

During the debates, the speakers answered numerous questions from the Genevan diplomatic corps, academia, analysts, journalists and students.

Also, the participants of the event had the opportunity to see with the photo exhibition, citing evidence of the results of aggression, numerous human casualties, destruction of infrastructure and economic damage.

The Geneva Center for Security Policy (GCSP) is an international foundation established in 1995 in accordance with Swiss law to promote the building and maintenance of peace, security and stability. The GCSP was founded by the Federal Ministry of Defence, Civil Defense and Sports in cooperation with the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. The governing body of the GCSP is the Fund Council, which includes representatives of 52 member states, including Kyrgyzstan, and the canton of Geneva.
