On April 13, 2022, Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN in New York, Aida Kasymalieva met with the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, Head of the Office of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in New York, Ligia Noronha.

During the meeting, the parties discussed priority areas for interaction between the Kyrgyz Republic and UNEP.

Permanent Representative Aida Kasymalieva informed about the country's international initiatives on the mountain agenda. In particular, the Permanent Representative informed about the declaration of 2022 as the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development and this year Kyrgyzstan plans to initiate a new draft resolution "Five Years Action for the Development of Mountain Regions". In this regard, she invited her to take part in upcoming events.

Ligia Noronha was also informed about national initiatives in the field of environmental protection, including the decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic declaring 2022 the Year of Mountain Ecosystems Protection and Climate Resilience and the National Program called "Zhashyl Muras"(Green Heritage), under which 5-6 million seedlings are planned to be planted annually in the country.

For her part, the Head of the Office expressed support and readiness to assist the activities of the Kyrgyz Republic in the field of sustainable mountain development.
