On July 6, 2023, the Permanent Mission of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN in New York with the Permanent Mission of Andorra to the UN organized an event on the theme “Climate Science into Action”.

The event was attended by representatives of the Circle of Women Ambassadors to the UN, including permanent representatives of Argentina, Brunei Darussalam, the Solomon Islands, Costa Rica, Monaco, and others.

During the meeting, Director of the International Cryosphere and Climate Initiative Dr. Morgan Sig and Director of the Institute for Arctic Studies, Dartmouth College Dr. Melody Burkins made presentations on the topic of climate change and the cryosphere problems and their impact on upstream and downstream countries.

This meeting provided an opportunity to learn about the problems of climate change, as well as to exchange views on resolving this problem through multilateral actions.

Permanent Representative Aida Kasymalieva in her speech noted that Kyrgyzstan as a mountainous country is also affected by the negative consequences of the melting of mountain glaciers. In this regard, she outlined the need to preserve the mountain cryosphere for the sustainable development of mountain regions. In addition, the Permanent Representative informed the participants about the initiatives of the Kyrgyz Republic and the ongoing work on the mining agenda.
