In 1992, Kyrgyzstan became a full member of the United Nations less than a year after gaining its independence.

On March 2, 1992, during the 46th session of the UN General Assembly, in accordance with the recommendation of the UN Security Council and resolution 46/225 of the UN General Assembly, Kyrgyzstan was unanimously admitted to the United Nations. In 1993, the first representative office of the United Nations Development Program opened in Bishkek.

The UN is an authoritative and universal international organization, which is the most effective platform for collectively confronting the threats and challenges of our time.

The Kyrgyz Republic from the beginning of its statehood, has firmly and consistently observed the universally recognized goals and principles enshrined in the UN Charter. On the international stage the Kyrgyz side is trying in good faith to fulfill its obligations. The Kyrgyz Republic always strives to "resolve its international disputes by peaceful means".

Over the history of membership, Kyrgyzstan has developed a strong position and high reputation in the UN. Kyrgyzstan has achieved significant results in promoting national interests and initiatives in the international arena. Kyrgyzstan has been repeatedly elected to various elected bodies of the UN and the governing structures of its specialized agencies.

Kyrgyzstan contributes to the activities of the Organization and strengthening its authority. At the initiative of the Kyrgyz side, the UN General Assembly adopted some resolutions that contributed focusing attention of the world community to the country, its culture and history, nature and ecology, as well as the problems and challenges of timeliness.

The active representation of the mountain agenda on the international platform by the Kyrgyz side has allowed Kyrgyzstan to gain a foothold in the eyes of the world community as a leader and initiator among states promoting the interests of all mountainous countries. This fact has been repeatedly emphasized by Secretary-General of the United Nations Antоnio Guterres.

The Kyrgyz Republic supports the UN as the one and only universal structure mandated by all UN member states to resolve emergent challenges facing humanity. In turn, Kyrgyzstan expresses the hope that the UN will continue to properly contribute to the solution of urgent global problems.

The Kyrgyz Republic is interested in further strengthening and expanding effective interaction to implement projects and programs aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
