Diplomatic relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Kazakhstan established on October 15, 1992.

During the years of independence, more than 120 Kyrgyz-Kazakh Interstate, Intergovernmental and Intersectoral agreements were signed, the most significant of which are: the Treaty of Eternal Friendship of April 8, 1997 and the Treaty of Allied Relations of December 25, 2003.

An effective bilateral institutional basis for cooperation formed based on the Treaty of Allied Relations - the following interaction bodies created:

- Supreme Interstate Council, headed by the Heads of states;

- Kyrgyz-Kazakhstan Intergovernmental Council, headed by Heads of Governments;

- The Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Kazakhstan.

3. Agreement on the principles of levying value-added tax on the export and import of goods (work, services) between the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Almaty, February 18, 1997)

4. The Treaty of Eternal Friendship between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Kazakhstan (Almaty, April 8, 1997).

5. Agreement between the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the promotion and mutual protection of investments (Almaty, April 8, 1997).

6. Agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Kazakhstan on the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of tax evasion with respect to taxes on income and on capital (Almaty, April 8, 1997).

7. Agreement between the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the principles of excise tax collection for export and import of goods (Almaty, June 11, 1997).

8. Agreement on economic cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2001-2005 (July 24, 2001, Bishkek).

9. Treaty on Allied Relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Kazakhstan (December 26, 2003, Astana).
