On July 26, 2021,  at the Headquarters of the World Trade Organization in Geneva, the Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic in the UN and other international organizations in Geneva Almazbek Bеishenaliev presented his credentials to the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

During the meeting, Almazbek Bеishenaliev briefly informed the WTO Director-General about the domestic political and economic situation in Kyrgyzstan, the last political events in the country. The Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic noted that the Kyrgyz Republic has entered into the WTO in 1998, and at that time the country has demonstrated high political willingness to run deep liberal reforms in the country which made the country pioneer of economic transformation in the post-Soviet region, becoming the first WTO member in the CIS region. As the representative of the Kyrgyz Republic noted, since 1998, after joining the WTO, the Kyrgyz Republic has doubled the number of the countries with which it currently trades.

Also, Almazbek Bеishenaliev congratulated Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala with the recent appointment to the position of the Director-General, wished her successful holding of the Ministerial Conference of the WTO in November-December 2021 and assured Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala that the Kyrgyz Republic will actively participate in the WTO’s major event.

The WTO Chief, in turn, also noted that the Kyrgyz Republic is one of the countries to demonstrate best practice in conducting deep reforms in the country. She has wished the young Permanent Representative of the KR all the successes and expressed hope for fruitful cooperation. As for the Ministerial Conference, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala noted that the participation of the countries of the Central Asian region is being considered at the level of heads of states.
