Cultural and humanitarian cooperation

Relations in the field of cultural and humanitarian cooperation are developing steadily.

On May 12-15, 2015, 56 international diplomatic fair "International Spring Fair and Food Festival" was held in London under the patronage of Princess Alexandra of Kent. The KR Embassy in the UK assisted participation of the Kyrgyz craftsman Aidai Chochunbaeva and jeweller Gulsara Akmatova-Davis at this event.

November 6, 2015, an event in memory of the KR’s People's writer K.Akmatov in London took place within the framework of the 4th International book forum and literary festival “Open Eurasia and Central Asia”. The event was important in terms of popularization of the KR culture in the host country.

November 7, 2015, in Bishkek, the Kyrgyz Drama Theatre named after Abdumomunov staged a play “Hamlet” by William Shakespeare in honour of the “Globe to Globe” world tour of the British theatre the “Globe”.

In March 2016, the KR Embassy in the UK took part in the events dedicated to the International Nooruz Day at Cambridge University (Cambridge) and the “Central Asian Spring Festival 2016” at University College London (UCL, London), during of which the KR Embassy organized jointly with the community of students and representatives of the Kyrgyz Diaspora in London a photo exhibition and demonstration of folk art products reflecting the history, culture and national traditions of the Kyrgyz people. They demonstrated videos and materials with information about nature and attractions, as well as tourism opportunities of the Kyrgyz Republic. The performance of the dance group “Ak-Kuu” was organized.

At these traditional spring festivals, which took place in March 2018 in Cambridge and London, the KR Embassy in the UK also organized a video and photo exhibition dedicated to the III World Nomad games in the KR as well as in honour of the 90th Anniversary of the world’s famous Kyrgyz writer Ch.T. Aitmatov. Visitors were also shown products of the Kyrgyz folk art, materials about tourist opportunities and sights of Kyrgyzstan.

May 13, 2016 as part of the first Kyrgyz-British investment forum in London, the KR Embassy in the UK presented for the British participants tourist opportunities of the Kyrgyz Republic as well as the Second World Nomad Games. The KR Embassy in the UK rendered an assistance for the dance group “Tumar” by A.Omurzakov, whose participation in the finals of the British television contest “Britain's Got Talent” was very successful.

October 17, 2016 a cultural and tourism event took place in London named “From Tien-Shan to London: Discover Kyrgyzstan” where the Kyrgyz national cultural heritage and tourist opportunities were presented.

 October 21, 2016 in Cambridge University a scientific symposium about history and culture of the Kyrgyz on the theme: “The Rhythms of the Past and Tunes for the Future: A Kyrgyz Epic” was organized and it was dedicated to the 25th Anniversary of the Independence of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Year of history and culture in Kyrgyzstan.

It should be noted that, in the continuation of the above-mentioned scientific symposium held at Cambridge, a collection of works by British, Kyrgyz and other scientific authors was published at Cambridge University. The Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the UK together with the Central Asian Forum of Cambridge University (Great Britain) held a presentation of the compilation named “Making the Kyrgyz” on August 14, 2018 in Bishkek.

On November 7, 2016 in London, the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the UK with the aim to promote and develop tourism in Kyrgyzstan organized a presentation “Kyrgyzstan - the Heart of Asia” with the participation of 6 tourism companies from Kyrgyzstan.

В 2017 году Посольство Кыргызстана в Великобритании приняло участие в 9 мероприятиях в сфере культуры и туризма, в ходе которых были представлены туристические возможности в Кыргызстане, распространены буклеты и брошюры, отражающие туристический потенциал Кыргызстана. При этом оказано содействие участию двух туристических компаний из Великобритании в составе первой Британской торговой миссии в КР.

В рамках сотрудничества в сфере образования, по линии программы «Чивнинг» Британского Совета в различных городах Великобритании обучаются семь студентов из КР.

In 2017, the KR Embassy in the UK took part in 9 events in the field of culture and tourism, during which tourism opportunities in Kyrgyzstan were presented. Also booklets and brochures on the Kyrgyz tourist potential and opportunities were distributed. At the same time, the KR Embassy in the UK was able to facilitate attendance of two tourist companies from the UK in the First British trade mission in the Kyrgyz Republic.

As for the cooperation in the field of education, at present, seven students from the Kyrgyz Republic are studying in various cities of the UK within the framework of the British Council's “Chevening Scholarship Programme”.
