Political collaboration

Kyrgyz-Uzbek relations are characterized by the dynamics of development based on the principles of equality and mutual respect for the interests of the parties in the political, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

Diplomatic relations were established on February 16, 1993. In Bishkek and Tashkent, the embassies of the two countries are open.

Between 1991 and 2006, six high-level meetings were held (4 visits to Uzbekistan and 2 visits to Kyrgyzstan). In 2007 and 2013 the First President of Uzbekistan I.Karimov visited Bishkek for participation in the SCO summits. The meeting of the leaders of the two countries continued on June 24, 2016 at the SCO summit in Tashkent and on December 24, 2016 in Samarkand. For 2017g. presidents met six times. Within four months, three state / official high-level visits took place, during which 42 documents were signed, the most important of which is the State Border Treaty, the Declaration on Strategic Partnership, the Strengthening of Friendship, Good Neighborliness and Confidence, on Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation, the Agreement on confidence-building measures at the border and military cooperation in the territory. Active visits continued in 2018 at the First Consultative Meeting in Astana, at the summit of the heads of state in IFAS in Ashgabat. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh. Mirziyoyev accepted an invitation to visit the III World Nomad Games and the summit of the heads of the CCTS participating countries on September 3, 2018 in Cholpon-Ata.

On November 29, 2019, the Second Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia was held in Tashkent.

In 2020, the heads of state held telephone conversations five times (March 27, May 4, June 1, July 24, November 14) and also participated in negotiations at multilateral platforms in the format of a video conference (on April 10, at an extraordinary meeting of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (CCTS) , On November 6, 2020 at a regular meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS countries, as well as on November 10, 2020 at a regular meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO.

Interparliamentary cooperation is one of the important aspects of bilateral cooperation, where parliamentarians of the two countries actively participate in mutual election processes on the rights of international observers, the 7th plenary meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking countries (TURKPA) in Bishkek. On December 20, 2017, the first official visit of the Toraga of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, D. Dzhumabekov, to Uzbekistan took place in the course of which the Speaker was received by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh. Mirziyoyev. The two countries' parliaments signed a Plan for the implementation of inter-parliamentary cooperation for 2018, and formed inter-parliamentary commissions for cooperation. On May 29, 2018, the first meeting of the Interparliamentary Commission took place in Fergana, Uzbekistan.

Parliamentarians of the Kyrgyz Republic took part as international observers of the elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kengash of People's Deputies, which took place on December 22, 2019.

On a regular basis, meetings of heads of government are held, the Kyrgyz-Uzbek intergovernmental commission for bilateral cooperation headed by the prime ministers of the two countries is operating. August 16, 2017 in Bishkek, the 8th meeting of the intergovernmental commission was held. March 29, 2018 The first meeting of the Council of Plenipotentiaries of the Government of the KR in the border areas and hokims of the border areas of Uzbekistan was held under the patronage of the Prime Ministers of the two countries.

On August 1, 2019, a working visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan A. Aripov to Kyrgyzstan took place.

On March 16, 2019 in Tashkent, First Vice Prime Minister K. Boronov took part in the Central Asian Economic Forum, on the sidelines of which he held a bilateral meeting with the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan A. Ramatov.

In 2020, dialogue at the government level was supported by telephone calls and video conferencing.

On December 8, 2020, Fergana hosted the regular third meeting of the Council of Plenipotentiaries of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and khokims of border regions of the Republic of Uzbekistan under the leadership of the Acting Prime Minister, First Vice Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic A.E. Novikov.

Close interaction underway between the foreign affairs agencies of the two countries. Regular meetings and consultations are held between heads, their deputies and heads of structural divisions of the ministries of foreign affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Between the foreign policy departments, the Cooperation Programs between the Foreign Ministries for 2016-2017 have been signed. and 2018-2020. In 2017 consultations were held on political, consular issues, on the interaction of information support, consultations on a legal basis.
