Trade and economic relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan are developing steadily, the level of trade turnover tends to grow.
The list of priority areas in trade and economic cooperation includes bringing the volume of mutual trade to $2 billion, ensuring a significant expansion of exports of Kyrgyz products to Uzbekistan, attracting investments, industrial cooperation and the creation of joint ventures.
Trade turnover between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2021 amounted to $496.6 million, export $180.1 million and import $316.8 million (2020 - $341.3 million, of which export $152.5 million, import $188.8 million).
According to the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic, as of January-April, the volume of foreign and mutual trade between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan is 146.1 million US dollars, of which exports amounted to 61.1 million and imports amounted to 84.9 million US dollars .
In the commodity structure of exports by the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan, the main share is occupied by: cement, fuel and energy resources (coal, oil products), live animals, ferrous metals and products from them, ceramic products, vehicles and their parts, glass and products from it, various equipment and mechanical devices, products made of stone, cement, etc.
Import revenues are: foodstuffs and agricultural raw materials (vegetables, fruits, etc.), plastics and products made from them, fertilizers, pharmaceutical products, natural gas, light industry products, products made of aluminum, copper, glass, ceramics, vehicles and their parts, electrical machines and apparatus, various equipment and their parts, etc.
As part of the State visit of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic S.N. Japarov to the Republic of Uzbekistan on March 11-12, 2021, as a result of which a solid package of documents was signed and key agreements were reached in the political, trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres, which gave a powerful impetus to the deepening and expansion of Kyrgyz-Uzbek relations. The Uzbek-Kyrgyz Development Fund has been established with an authorized capital of $200 million. The fund will finance self-sustaining projects in priority sectors of the economy of the Kyrgyz Republic by providing loans to business entities in various sectors of the economy. The Fund will create new foundations for strengthening bilateral economic ties.
Important joint projects for Kyrgyzstan are the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan joint railway and the construction of the Kambar-Ata hydroelectric power station 1.
In general, the current level of relations and the potential for trade and economic relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan remains high. The main promising areas in trade and economic relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan are still cooperation in the agro-industrial, industrial, transport, communication and tourism sectors.
