The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Kazakbaev met with the Secretary General of the OSCE Helga Maria Schmid in Vienna

On October 1, 2021, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Kazakbaev held a meeting with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi at the Vienna International Center.

The Head of the Foreign Ministry of the Kyrgyz Republic highly appreciated the role of the IAEA in assisting Member States in gaining access to nuclear science, technology and non-energy use of nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes.

R.Kazakbaev informed the Head of the IAEA about the ongoing reclamation works at facilities in the Kyrgyz Republic and the status of agreements on the reclamation of other objects of the country's uranium heritage.

During the conversation, Minister R.Kazakbaev asked to accelerate the implementation of the technical cooperation project to improve brachytherapy, radiation therapy and nuclear medicine services and pointed out the interest of the Kyrgyz Republic in participating in the ZODIAC initiative, which is aimed at detecting and tracking zoonotic diseases and increasing the readiness of countries to combat new and emerging pathogens.

In turn, the Director General of the IAEA, Mr. R. Grossi noted the active cooperation between the IAEA and the Kyrgyz Republic and announced further support for planned and implemented projects in Kyrgyzstan through the Agency.
