Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Kazakbaev met with Afghan Foreign Minister H.E. Amir-Khan Mottaki

On March 12, 2022 Mr. Ruslan Kazakbaev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, met with Mr. Amir Khan Mottaki, acting Minister of foreign affairs of Afghanistan Foreign in the framework of Antalya Diplomatic Forum by the initiative of the Afghan side, met  between the H.E.Ruslan Kazakbaev with acting Afghan Foreign Minister H.E. Amir-Khan Mottaki.

Heads of the foreign ministries of the two states discussed topical issues of bilateral relations, as well as security issues and the situation in the region.

Minister R. Kazakbaev noted that the Kyrgyz Republic seeks to develop good neighborly relations with Afghanistan based on the common history, culture and traditions of the peoples of the two countries and has always adhered to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of Afghanistan and respect for the right of the Afghan people to determine the future of their country.

Minister welcomed all peace and humanitarian initiatives on Afghanistan from other states and expressed interest in stability, economic growth and prosperity of the country, calling on the Afghan side to work with the international community.

Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan Amir Khan Mottaki expressed gratitude to the Kyrgyz side for providing humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people in September and October 2021. In this context, the Afghan side proposed to establish trade routes linking the north and south of the continent, and expressed a request to assist in the export of agricultural products from Afghanistan to the markets of the EAEU countries, taking into account the interests and transit capabilities of Kyrgyzstan.

Regarding the issues of regional security, Minister R.Kazakbaev welcomed the ongoing efforts of the Afghan government to stabilize the situation in the country, as well as the commitments undertaken by the new Afghan authorities to continue the fight against drug smuggling and prevent the use of the territory of Afghanistan by international terrorist groups against neighboring countries, countries of the region and countries around the world in general.

Minister R.Kazakbaev drew attention of the Afghan side to the fact that today the issues of the implementation of the CASA-1000 project for the supply of electricity to Afghanistan, as well as the practical development and more complete use of the existing transit and transport potential between all countries of the region, are becoming especially relevant. In this context, the Afghan side proposed to establish trade routes linking the north and south of the continent, and expressed the request to assist in the export of agricultural products from Afghanistan to the EAEU countries' markets, taking into account the interests and transit capabilities of Kyrgyzstan.

In addition, the Afghan side suggested considering the possibility of strengthening regional cooperation between the countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan and holding a conference on security issues in Kabul with subsequent rotation between the countries of the region.
