Minister of Foreign affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic H.E. Mr. Zheenbek Kulubaev met with the Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Ms. Rebeca Grynspan

Within his official trip to Geneva to attend the High-Level Segment of the United Nations Human Rights Council the Minister of Foreign affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic H.E. Mr. Zheenbek Kulubaev met with the Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Ms. Rebeca Grynspan on March 1, 2023.

During the meeting, the parties discussed a number of topical issues, including those related to the development of a creative economy, the exchange of external debt for "green" initiatives as well as sustainable mountain development.

In particular, Minister Zheenbek Kulubaev mentioned the adoption of the Concept for the Development of the Creative Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic in 2022 and informed about the development of this industry in the country. Minister Zheenbek Kulubaev recalled the adoption in December 2022 on the UN General Assembly resolution on the announcement of "Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions 2023-2027 ".

The Minister informed about the appeal of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Mr. Sadyr Zhaparov on the exchange of external debt for "green" initiatives. Taking into account the UNCTAD’s mandate, the Minister expressed a request to Ms. Rebeca Grynspan to provide support in the practical implementation of this initiative.

In order to determine specific measures for deepening further cooperation with UNCTAD, Minister Zheenbek Kulubaev invited Rebeca Grynspan to visit the Kyrgyz Republic.

The Secretary-General of UNCTAD noted the relevance of the voiced initiatives. She expressed UNCTAD's readiness to support the Kyrgyz Republic in their implementation within the framework of the Organization's mandate, while recommending the development of an integrated approach in this direction. In this regard, she expressed her intention to send a special mission to Bishkek to discuss cooperation with the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic on these issues.
