Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN in New York A.Kasymalieva delivered a lecture at Utah Valley University

On December 5, 2023, Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Aida Kasymalieva delivered a lecture at Utah Valley University on the topic: Kyrgyzstan's Promotion of the Mountain Agenda at the UN: Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions.

In her remarks, Permanent Representative Aida Kasymalieva informed faculty and students in the audience about the accomplished activities and initiatives of the Kyrgyz Republic in promoting the mountain agenda, including the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions, which aims to raise the awareness of the international community about the problems faced by mountain countries and give a new impetus to international efforts to address these problems. In addition, she informed about plans to hold the Second Global Mountain Summit "Bishkek+25" in 2027 in Bishkek.

Permanent Representative Aida Kasymalieva highlighted the fruitful cooperation between Utah Valley University and academic institutions of the Kyrgyz Republic in developing joint educational programs with a focus on implementation of the sustainable mountain development in the United States and around the world, including the United Nations. She thanked, in particular, the Department of History and Political Science at Utah Valley University for encouraging its students to collaborate with their peers from the Kyrgyz Republic in jointly promoting sustainable development for mountain regions. One of the important steps of cooperation was the development of an inclusive educational model based on student-engaged learning and the involvement of students in the implementation of this initiative through student clubs.

At the end of the lecture, the inauguration of a tripartite partnership between Utah Valley University, Asbury University in Kentucky and Osh Technological University to jointly promote sustainable mountain development through educational programs took place. Students of the three universities jointly observed International Mountain Day, which is commemorated annually on December 11 around the world in accordance with the UN General Assembly resolution of 2003, adopted at the initiative of Kyrgyzstan.
