Тhe Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN in New York Mirgul Moldoisaeva had a telephone conversation with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres

On May 6, 2021, the Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN in New York Mirgul Moldoisaeva had a telephone conversation with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

During conversation, the Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic Mirgul Moldoisaeva informed the UN Secretary General about the conflict that took place on April 28-30, 2021 and the current situation in the border areas of the Kyrgyz Republic. In particular, she said that as a result of the armed conflict, 36 people lost their lives, over 200 citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic were injured and hospitalized, and dozens are in critical condition. Tens of thousands of citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic were forced to leave their homes, hundreds of residential houses, educational and infrastructural objects in Batken oblast were destroyed.

Permanent Representative Mirgul Moldoisaeva emphasized that the Kyrgyz Republic has always been advocating solution of border issues only through peaceful negotiations.

The Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic thanked the UN Secretary General for considering a humanitarian assistance to the victims, assistance for internally displaced persons, as well as in the restoration of destroyed infrastructure facilities in Batken oblast.

The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres expressed condolences on the death of civilians, a large number of victims and destruction as a result of the armed conflict. He noted that he closely monitors the situation at the border and receives operational information. He expressed gratitude to the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov for reaching peace agreements and the commitment of the Kyrgyz side to resolve all issues exclusively through peaceful negotiations. The Secretary General emphasized that the UN is ready to provide the Kyrgyz Republic with comprehensive assistance in stabilizing the situation and Kyrgyzstan can count on the full support by the UN.
