Press release of the Permanent Mission of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN in New York

On June 26, 2020, a ceremony was held to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the signing of the UN Charter. In accordance with UNGA resolution 73/299, this event has become part of occasionsdedicated to the 75th anniversary of the United Nations.

The ceremony was held in the form of a videoconference and statements were delivered by the President of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, President of the UN Security Council - French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, ECOSOC President Mona Juul and President of the International Court of Justice Abdulqawi Ahmed Yusuf.

In his message on the occasion of the anniversary,the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Chingiz Aidarbekov indicated (emphasized) that the United Nations remains a reliable guarantor of global peace and security, peaceful settlement of disputes(conflicts) and coexistence, sovereign equality of countries and democratic governance of states.

Minister Aidarbekov reaffirming the strong commitment of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN Charter, noted with satisfaction, that within the activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the UN, there is a global discussion on the role of multilateralism in building the future that we want, despite numerous problems, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also mentioned, that today humanity is facing new global challenges, the most serious of which are climate change, humanitarian and migration crises, increasing poverty and inequality, highlighted the importance of the 2030 Agenda to achieve the SDGs. The Kyrgyz Republic will present its National Voluntary Review on implementation of the Goals on July 16, 2020.
