The Kyrgyz Republic has successfully completed its chairmanship in the Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia

The Consultative Meeting of the States Parties to the Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia was held under the Kyrgyz chairmanship in virtual mode on December 22.

During the event, the Kyrgyz Republic presented information on the results of its activities as a chair of the Central Asian Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone, and also made a number of proposals for the institutional development of the Treaty.

The participants held a constructive exchange of views on expanding both intrazonal and interzonal cooperation with other Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zones.

In the framework of the Consultative Meeting, the States Parties provided information on their initiatives on multilateral platforms, as well as on current approaches to nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.

As a result of the event, the States Parties agreed that the Republic of Tajikistan will take over the chairmanship in the Treaty starting from January 1, 2023.
