On October 7, 2021, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Kazakbaev received the Regional Ambassador for the 26th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-26), Mr. David Moran.

The interlocutors exchanged views on preparations for the upcoming COP-26, which will take place from November 31 to 12 this year. in Glasgow (UK).

D. Moran presented up-to-date information on the preparations for COP-26, the program of the Summit of World Leaders and on certain organizational and logistical issues. The Regional Ambassador also noted the opportunities for countries to demonstrate their climate ambitions and attract climate financing during the upcoming Conference.

Minister R. Kazakbaev informed about the importance of the issues of combating climate change for the Kyrgyz Republic, the republic's commitment to the goals of the Paris Agreement, national plans to reduce greenhouse gases by 2030 and the desire to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

He informed that the Kyrgyz Republic, being vulnerable to climate change, a landlocked mountainous country, and taking into account the importance of the upcoming COP-26, plans to take part in this global climate conference at the level of the Head of State. He also expressed gratitude to the British side for the support provided to the Kyrgyz Republic in preparation for COP-26.

The parties agreed that the fight against climate change can become a relevant and promising area of bilateral cooperation between the two states.
