On July 13, 2023, the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Germany Mr. Omurbek Tekebaev met with the Ambassador of Nepal to Germany Mr. Ram Kaji Khadka. Nepal, like Kyrgyzstan, is a high mountainous country, where the highest mountain in the world - Mount Everest - is located.

During the meeting, Ambassador Mr. Omurbek Tekebaev informed the Ambassador of Nepal about the efforts of Kyrgyzstan in promoting the interests of mountain regions, the UN resolutions adopted at the initiative of Kyrgyzstan on issues and challenges related to sustainable mountain development around the world, as well as the work being done in Kyrgyzstan to establish the Global Mountain University.

In addition, Ambassador Mr. Omurbek Tekebaev particularly focused the attention of the interlocutor on the UN resolution "Sustainable Mountain Development", which was adopted at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly on the initiative of Kyrgyzstan and proclaimed 2023 - 2027 "Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions", which aims to intensify the activities of the international community in the field of sustainable mountain development, as well as holding the Second Global Mountain Summit in Bishkek in 2027. Ambassador Mr. Omurbek Tekebaev took this opportunity to invite the Nepalese side to consider the possibility of participation of the top leadership of Nepal in the Second Global Mountain Summit in 2027.

The Ambassadors also discussed climate change and its impact on landlocked developing mountainous countries. During the meeting, the Ambassadors expressed their shared concern about the threat posed by climate change to mountain regions, especially landlocked countries. The Ambassadors emphasised the need to strengthen international cooperation and coordination of efforts to combat climate change in order to ensure sustainable development and protection of ecosystems in these vulnerable regions.

The Ambassadors of Kyrgyzstan and Nepal agreed to jointly promote sustainable mountain development initiatives and to engage with relevant German government authorities to sensitise them to the problems of landlocked mountain countries.
