Day of the national hat of the Kyrgyz people – «Ak kalpak»

On 5th March, 2020, the Consulate General of the Kyrgyz Republic in Istanbul and «Kyrgyz Culture and Friendship Community» diaspora members celebrated the Day of the national hat of the Kyrgyz people – «Ak kalpak».

In order to promote the cultural heritage of the Kyrgyz nation, the participants walked along Taksim Square, visited the Governor of the Beyoglu district         Mr. Mustafa Demirelli, who was presented with Ak kalpak and national coat «Chepken».

The event aroused great interest among guests of the Consulate General of the Kyrgyz Republic in Istanbul.

Note: Ak Kalpak — a hat for men of all ages. The Kalpak is worn in Kyrgyzstan as an element of everyday wardrobe or festive attire. “Ak” – in the Kyrgyz language means “white”, and also “pure”, and “Kalpak“ means “cap”, or literally “Felt Hat”. The hat is made of white sheep’s felt and decorated with national ornaments each with its own specific and deep symbolism.
