Head of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Zhaparov and the First Vice President of Iran Mohammad Mohber discussed issues of bilateral cooperation

The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Head of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Zhaparov  held a meeting with the First Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Mohber who visited the Kyrgyz Republic as part of his participation in a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

At the beginning of the meeting  the Head of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Zhaparov congratulated the First Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran on obtaining full membership status in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

"I am confident that Iran will make a significant contribution to strengthening the SCO's potential and fostering friendship and cooperation among the SCO member states," stated the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Subsequently, the parties discussed issues on the bilateral agenda of Kyrgyz-Iranian cooperation.

The Head of the Cabinet of Ministers described the visit of the First Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Mohber to the Kyrgyz Republic as "historic" and expressed hope that the visit would establish a strong foundation for the further development of bilateral cooperation.

In the context of trade and economic cooperation, the Head of the Cabinet of Ministers emphasized the importance of holding regular meetings of the joint Kyrgyz-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission and achieving the objectives outlined during these meetings.

The Head of the Cabinet of Ministers expressed satisfaction with the signing of a Memorandum on the establishment of the Kyrgyz-Iranian investment office in Bishkek during the Kyrgyz-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission held on October 20 this year. He expressed hope that the office's activities would further enhance trade and economic cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Iran.

The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers also mentioned that the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic is working on creating a favorable investment climate within the country, and that Kyrgyzstan's investment legislation is "quite liberal."

During the discussion of the transit and transport sector, it was noted that Kyrgyzstan, being a landlocked country, is interested in utilizing Iran's seaports.

The parties placed particular emphasis on cooperation in agriculture and industry, with a focus on increasing the export of environmentally friendly products from Kyrgyzstan to Iran.

"Kyrgyzstan has substantial potential for exporting beans to the Iranian market. Bean cultivation covers more than 55,000 hectares of leguminous crops, and the gross harvest for 2022 amounted to 78,276 tons," stated Akylbek Zhaparov. He added that Kyrgyzstan also has the opportunity to export honey to Iran.

In turn, the First Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Mohber noted the considerable potential for increasing the volume of mutual trade turnover between the two countries and stressed the need to elevate bilateral relations to a new level.

Furthermore, he expressed interest and full readiness to strengthen friendly relations with Kyrgyzstan in the spirit of friendship and partnership.

At the end of the meeting, the parties reviewed the progress of agreements reached during the meeting of the two presidents on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York (USA). They also agreed to enhance the frequency of meetings at various levels.
