The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Péter Szijjártó has come on an official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic

On May 3, 2022 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Péter Szijjártó has come on an official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic. During the visit he met with the President of the Kyrgyz Republic S.N.Zhaparov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Zh.Kulubaev, the Minister of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic D.Amangeldiev.

In the framework of the visit of Péter Szijjártó to the Kyrgyz Republic, the 2nd meeting of the Kyrgyz-Hungarian Strategic Council on the issues of bilateral political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation was held.

During the meeting the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Zh.Kulubaev congratulated Péter Szijjártó on the victory of the ruling party FIDESZ in the parliamentary elections in Hungary on April 3, 2022.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Zh.Kulubaev also expressed gratitude to Péter Szijjártó for the prompt decision to provide a humanitarian corridor for the evacuation of citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic from Ukraine, taking into account the current situation in this country.

The parties especially noted that April 16th , 2022 marked the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and Hungary. During this period of time a fruitful path of cooperation has been passed, and relations between the countries have reached the level of strategic partnership.

In accordance with the agenda of the meeting of the Strategic Council, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and Hungary discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation. In particular, the parties discussed the issues of organizing mutual high-level visits in 2022 and further strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

The parties agreed to launch a direct flight on the route Budapest-Bishkek-Budapest by the Hungarian airline WizzAir in the very near future. The launch of direct flights Budapest-Bishkek-Budapest is very important for the Kyrgyz Republic in terms of further development of investment and tourism potential.

The work of the Hungarian-Kyrgyz Development Fund, the implementation of projects within the framework of the Fund were discussed, the parties agreed to increase gradually the authorized capital of the Fund to 50 million US dollars as investment projects are successfully implemented.

The Ministers discussed joint work within the framework of the Kyrgyz-Hungarian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, noted the importance of implementing the agreements reached during the 2nd meeting of the Commission, which was held on November 16, 2021 in Budapest. The activities of the Kyrgyz-Hungarian Business Council have been discussed. The Kyrgyz side suggested to hold a next meeting of the Kyrgyz-Hungarian Business Council in Bishkek this year.

During the meeting of the Strategic Council the parties also discussed the issues of further cooperation in the field of education. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Zh.Kulubaev expressed gratitude to Péter Szijjártó for increasing the scholarship quota for the Kyrgyz students in higher educational institutions in Hungary to 200 places annually under the Stipendium Hungaricum program.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Zh.Kulubaev also invited P.Szijjártó to hold the First Kyrgyz-Hungarian Rector's Conference in Kyrgyzstan this year, and confirmed readiness to welcome the Secretary of State for Stipendium Hungaricum and the Hungarian Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Mrs.Orsholya Pachay-Tomassic on a visit to Kyrgyzstan.

Issues of cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and Hungary were discussed at the meeting. In particular, the parties discussed holding the Days of Culture of Kyrgyzstan in Hungary and Hungary in Kyrgyzstan.

During the meeting the parties also discussed the cooperation within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States, as well as in the Visegrad Group-Central Asia format.

As a result of the negotiations, the following documents were signed:

1. Roadmap for bilateral cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary for 2022-2025.

2. Memorandum between the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Ministry of Human Resources of Hungary on cooperation in the field of culture.
