The Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Hungary held a cultural event "Aitmatov Readings".

     On December 19 2023, the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Hungary in the framework of celebrating the 95th anniversary of the world famous writer, diplomat, statesman and public figure Chyngyz Aitmatov together with the Representative Office of the Organisation of Turkic States in Hungary, held a cultural event "Aitmatov Readings".

    The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Budapest, cultural representatives who personally knew Chyngyz Aitmatov, as well as students from the OTS countries.

     Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to Hungary T. Kushchubekov and Acting Director of the OTS Representative Office in Hungary T. Kydyrov made welcoming speeches, emphasizing the influence and importance of Chyngyz Aitmatov's monumental personality not only in the context of modern literature, but also his invaluable contribution to the development of the diplomatic service of the USSR and Kyrgyzstan. Ambassador T. Kushchubekov noted the significance for the Kyrgyz people of the awarding of Ch. Aitmatov by the President of Hungary with the highest state order of Hungary - the Officer's Cross in 2006.

     During the event, presentations were made by Hungarian Aitmatologists, academicians D. Somfai, E. Jancsikity and Z. Jánosi, who shared their in-depth research on Aitmatov's work, emphasizing not only the artistic aspects of the work, but also its impact on the lifestyle and values of modern society.  

     The event ended with a literary readings of excerpts from the writer's works "Mother Earth", "Jamilya" and "When Mountains Fall (The Eternal Bride)" performed by the students of the OTS countries in their native languages.
