The Italian Republic recognized the independence of Kyrgyzstan on January 23, 1992. Diplomatic relations between Kyrgyzstan and Italy were established on March 24, 1992.
Before the opening of a separate diplomatic mission of Kyrgyzstan in Rome, bilateral cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Italy was carried out through the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Switzerland.
In accordance with Decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic No. 30 of February 8, 2020 and Decree of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic No. 323 of June 10, 2020, the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Italian Republic was established with a permanent residence in the city of Rome.
