On February 3, 2020, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Republic of Turkey Kubanychbek Omuraliev met with Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey Fatih Donmez.

During the meeting, the parties discussed current relations and opportunities for cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Turkey in the field of energy and subsoil use. Considering Turkey’s extensive experience in the mentioned areas, Ambassador Omuraliev suggested to Minister Donmez to consider Kyrgyz investment projects in the field of energy and mining for possible participation of Turkish state and private companies.

The parties agreed that the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey will familiarize Turkish companies with Kyrgyz projects for the construction of hydropower plants and field development and probably, based on the results of which, the visit of the Turkish delegation to Kyrgyzstan will be organized to held detailed negotiations.

In order to attract investment in the energy sector, Kubanychbek Omuraliev informed Fatih Donmez about the energy potential and the possibilities of exporting electricity from Kyrgyzstan to other countries of the region, in particular, he noted that after the completion of the CASA-1000 project, Kyrgyzstan will have the opportunity to export electricity generated in Hydroelectric power station to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. He also informed about the potential of Kyrgyzstan in the field of subsoil use and investment opportunities, the conditions for doing business (low taxes and costs of doing business) and foreign trade turnover of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Kubanychbek Omuraliev also invited Turkish state and private companies in the field of energy and subsoil use to participate in the Kyrgyz-Turkish Business Forum, which will be held in the summer of 2020 in Issyk-Kul region of the Kyrgyz Republic.
