On February 26-27, 2020, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Republic of Turkey Kubanychbek Omuraliev paid a working visit to the city of Adana.

As part of the visit to Adana, Ambassador Omuraliev met with the Governor of Adana Province, Mayor of the city of the same name, managers, businessmen and industrialists of the Adana Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as the Director of the Directorate for Migration of the province of Adana of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Turkey and Kyrgyz citizens living in the mentioned province of Turkey.

During the meeting with the heads of Adana province and city, as part of the development of the regions of Kyrgyzstan Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev noted the necessity of establishment and development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation between the regions and cities of Kyrgyzstan and the mentioned province of Turkey.

Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev made a presentations on the investment climate and opportunities in the Kyrgyz Republic, the conditions for doing business (liberal taxes, costs of doing business, etc.), macroeconomic indicators and the foreign trade turnover of the Kyrgyz Republic, on the membership of the Kyrgyz Republic in the EAEU and distributed Kyrgyz investment projects during the meeting with management and businessmen of the Adana Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Ambassador Omuraliev proposed businessmen to open new production sites in Kyrgyzstan and expressed readiness to assist in their activities in the Kyrgyz Republic, and also answered all their questions.

In the meeting with citizens of Kyrgyzstan living in Adana, Ambassador Omuraliev informed the citizens of Kyrgyzstan about the measures taken by the Government regarding the protection of citizens, as well as about the meetings with the Governor of Adana Province, Mayor of the city of the same name, the Director of the Directorate for Migration of the province of Adana of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Turkey and answered all their questions.

With the participation of a representative of the Directorate for Migration of the province of Adana was held the meeting where were discussed issues of protecting the rights and interests of citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic in Turkey, cut off illegal employment channels of citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic in Turkey, the rights and obligations of foreign citizens residing in Turkey, and were given answers to numerous questions of citizens of Kyrgyzstan regarding the procedure for applying for a residence and work permit.

Also as part of a trip, Ambassador Omuraliev met with the Rector of Chukurova University and Kyrgyz students studying at that University, during which were discussed issues of study and conditions of stay of Kyrgyz students as well as inter-university cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Turkey.

For reference: Adana is one of the largest cities of the Republic of Turkey and the administrative center of the province of the same name. The province is located in the south-east of Turkey. Adana is located on the Seyhan River, 50 km away. from the Mediterranean Sea.

Adana belonged to various civilizations and empires at different times, including Greater Armenia, Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman empires, Cilician Armenian kingdom. In the 1080s, Adana was conquered by the Seljuk Turks, in the 1140s. It was returned to Byzantine and after 4 decades it was lost. Then, until the XIV century, it was part of the Cilician Armenian kingdom. Since the beginning of the XVI century, it was under the rule of Turkish people.

Adana is also a large industrial center where the textile, chemical, and food industries are well developed. Export is 1700 billion US dollars. The existing Organized Industrial Zone with an area of 11.000.000 km² is the largest one in Turkey.
