On April 29, 2020, there was a joint video conference of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Republic of Turkey Kubanychbek Omuraliev with leaders and representatives of the Platform of Students from Kyrgyzstan (KGSP) from 25 cities of Turkey, uniting the Kyrgyz student community in Turkish universities.

Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev told students about measures taken by the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Embassy to protect the rights and legitimate interests of Kyrgyz citizens residing in Turkey in connection with the coronavirus pandemic in Turkey. In particular, the implementation of three charter flights for the return of 757 citizens, including students, to Kyrgyzstan in March-April of this year; despite quarantine announcement in Turkey from the end of the March and the ban on movement between 31 cities of Turkey, and the ban on going out onto the street on weekends and holidays the need for an official appeal to the Embassy and Consulate General in order to return to Kyrgyzstan; the provision of humanitarian assistance to citizens in need, including who lost job due to the coronavirus pandemic; working out with the Turkish authorities the issue of not evicting scholarship students from dormitories, timely providing them with scholarships, etc.

In turn, the leaders and representatives of the Kyrgyz student community, also told about the situation regarding citizens and students from Kyrgyzstan in the cities they represent. In general, students noted the absence of any problems among students

who study according to the Turkish Scholarship program of the Office of Turks Abroad and Related Communities under the Ministry of culture and tourism of the Republic of Turkey (provision of hostels, scholarships, meals, etc.). At the same time, representatives of the cities of Konya, Kastamonu, Istanbul and others reported on the provision of feasible joint assistance to those in need, for example, students studying on a contract basis in private religious educational institutions (grocery sets, housing, financial assistance, etc.) and expressed a request for assistance to this category of students.

Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev expressed his gratitude to the students for their solidarity and the assistance provided to students, offered to send appeals with the aim of providing help to specific students in need by the Embassy through Kyrgyz diasporas and local authorities, called for unity and fulfillment of all requirements of the Republic of Turkey on compliance with measures taken to protect the population from the spread of coronavirus.
