Statement of H.E. Ms. Mirgul Moldoisaeva

Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic  to the United Nations at the official ceremony of celebration of the International Day of Nooruz 2018

(20 March 2018)

Excellencies, colleagues, ladies and gentlemen,

It is my great pleasure and honour to welcome all of you at this ceremony to celebrate the auspicious Nooruz holiday!

Once again brotherly countries, many of which were behind the UN General Assembly’s resolution 64/253 recognizing Nooruz as an International Day, came together to jointly organize this wonderful event. On behalf of all Kyrgyz people and my Government I extend the warmest congratulations to the people around the world celebrating this holiday and wish peace and love, happiness and prosperity to all of them!

Over the years and centuries “Nooruz” which means “New Day” or “New Year” and comes with “vernal equinox”, has truly become a symbol of renewal, friendliness and rapprochement among civilizations. This holiday encompasses wise and inexhaustible covenants of our ancestors, constantly reminding us of such universal and eternal values as humanism and compassion, mutual assistance and generosity. Nooruz always gives people new hopes and aspirations. Therefore, we do hope that this holiday and its spirit will bring relief and good fortune to the people around the world who have found themselves in difficult situations.

Nooruz is a national holiday in Kyrgyzstan since our early independence and as such it always brings to our people new hopes for better changes. In this sense, during recent years we have been continuing to make democratic changes in our country, including by introducing parliamentary democracy, promoting rule of law, gender equality, protecting human rights and strengthening interethnic and intercultural dialogue among peoples. Although we achieved good results on all of these areas, there are still many remains to be done.

At the beginning of this year the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov declared 2018 as the “Year of Provinces Development”. For successful national development Kyrgyztan needs successful and developed provinces. Therefore, the most important task of the State at the present stage is the creation of new working places, development of transport infrastructure, support of export potential of the provinces, establishment of favorable conditions for small and medium entrepreneurship, investments attraction for economic development of the provisions.

Nooruz - is the messenger of goodness and warmth. In Kyrgyzstan, this wonderful holiday is celebrated by the representatives of all ethnic groups and nationalities. The Kyrgyz Republic constantly work on extending and strengthening the traditions of intercultural and interreligious relationships. In this regard, on behalf of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, we would like to cordially invite everybody to participate in the Third World Nomad Games in September of 2018 on the shore of the Issyk-Kul lake, the pearl of Central Asia.

We hope that these meaningful endeavors will have positive impact and contribution to our country’s further democratic development. We do also rely on our partners, including the United Nations, in helping us on various aspects of development strategy.

In conclusion, may I once again sincerely congratulate all of you on this wonderful festivity and wish everyone happy and joyful Nowruz!

Нооруз майрамыңар кут болсун!

            Thank you for your attention.
