Directions and measures to strengthen political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the European Union were discussed by the leaders.

The parties also discussed a wide range of issues on the global agenda, including regional security.

President Sadyr Zhaparov by expressing gratitude to Charles Michel for the initiative of holding the First Central Asia-European Union Summit supported his initiative to transfer this format to a permanent high-level platform.

He noted the positive dynamics in the development of bilateral cooperation and interregional ties. This year, the partnership between Kyrgyzstan and the European Union turns 30 years old. Over the past period, the EU has become a reliable partner and one of the leading donors of Kyrgyzstan.

The head of state stressed the need to further strengthen bilateral relations, the importance of a visit to EU institutions and the signing of a comprehensive Agreement on Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the EU.

During the conversation, President Sadyr Zhaparov raised the issues on the extension of the GSP+ status in relation to Kyrgyzstan, given the relevance of enhancing trade and economic relations and promoting the export of Kyrgyz products to the European market.

In turn, the President of the European Council Charles Michel stressed that the EU considers cooperation with Central Asia as one of the most important areas. The EU is ready to improve and intensify cooperation with the region aimed at strengthening economic ties, in particular with Kyrgyzstan.

He also noted with satisfaction the upcoming signing of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Kyrgyzstan and the EU and announced his readiness to offer Kyrgyzstan specific projects for interaction.

The parties expressed mutual readiness to further deepen interaction between Kyrgyzstan and the EU in priority areas of cooperation.
