Trade and Economic Cooperation

Kazakhstan is one of the main trading partners of Kyrgyzstan. For the period from 2006 to 2012, the volume of annual trade increased from 362.4 million US dollars to 1,058 billion US dollars.

Bilateral trade in January-July 2018 amounted to 383.73 million US dollars, exports to the Kyrgyz Republic - 278.65 million US dollars, imports from the Kyrgyz Republic - 105.1 million US dollars. This dynamic allows us to hope that the figure of 1 billion US dollars in mutual trade can be achieved ahead of schedule.

Foodstuffs and agricultural products, electric power and vehicles were exported from Kyrgyzstan. Grains and petroleum products, coal, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, chemicals were imported from Kazakhstan to our country.

According to the National Statistics Committee of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan ranks fourth in terms of investment in our country with a share of 7.7%. In the first three countries - China, Canada and Russia.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries, a sufficient amount of Kazakhstani investments proceeded in Kyrgyzstan. The largest volume of investments from Kazakhstan fixed in 2013, and amounted to 55.1 million US dollars.

The most priority economic activities for investment are financial activities (46.6%); trade, repair of motor vehicles, household goods and personal items (43.8%); real estate operations, rent and provision of services to consumers (8.2%); processing industry (5%); mining industry (7.2%); transport and communications (1.9%).

In accordance with the information of the National Statistics Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic, exports of certain types of goods from the Kyrgyz Republic to Kazakhstan in 2013 amounted to 377,192.9 thousand US dollars, imports of goods from the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Kyrgyz Republic - 558618.4 thousand US dollars. In 2014 exports from Kyrgyzstan to Kazakhstan amounted to 367713.4 thousand US dollars, imports from Kazakhstan to the Kyrgyz Republic - 776738.1 thousand US dollars. In 2015 exports from the Kyrgyz Republic to Kazakhstan amounted to 237552.4 thousand US dollars, imports from Kazakhstan in the Kyrgyz Republic - 553165.1 thousand US dollars. In 2016, exports from the Kyrgyz Republic to the Republic of Kazakhstan amounted to 265476.3 thousand US dollars, imports from the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Kyrgyz Republic - 437203.8 thousand US dollars. In 2017 exports from the Kyrgyz Republic to the Republic of Kazakhstan amounted to 268584.1 thousand US dollars and imports from the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Kyrgyz Republic - 520480.9 thousand US dollars.

Currently, 247 joint ventures with Kyrgyz capital registered in Kazakhstan. The enterprises are mainly engaged in the wholesale and retail trade, construction, car sales, cattle breeding, growing grain and leguminous crops, including seed production, making cotton yarns, other types of publishing.

In the Kyrgyz Republic 334 joint ventures with participation of Kazakh capital registered (financial activity, food production, trade, repair of cars, household goods and personal items, transport and communications, construction, etc.).

Relationship between the regions of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan are developing. Interregional cooperation is becoming a significant factor in the expansion of bilateral trade, economic, investment and cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

In recent years, ties established and twin-town relations signed between the four oblasts of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. These are Issyk-Kul and Almaty oblasts, Osh and Karaganda oblasts, Dzhambul and Talas oblasts and Chui and South Kazakhstan oblasts, as well as the capitals of the two countries - Bishkek and Astana.

On August 17, 2018, the 7th meeting of the Kyrgyz-Kazakh Intergovernmental Council was held in Astana. The meeting was chaired by the Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic M. Abylgaziyev and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan B. Sagintayev. The Head of Government of the Kyrgyz Republic stressed that trade relations were a promising and in profitable direction in cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Kazakhstan, denoting as an objective an increase in trade turnover between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Kazakhstan to 1 billion US dollars. In 2017, mutual trade increased by 13%, and for the first 5 months of this year, the increase was almost 10%.
