On December 19, 2019 a meeting of the Members of the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament) of the Kyrgyz Republic headed by the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Mirlan Bakirov with the Members of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan headed by the Deputy Chairman Vladimir Bozhko has been held. The meeting was held at the checkpoint Kordai of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Kazakh side plans to begin the reconstruction of the "Ak-Zhol" - "Kordai" checkpoint since January next year. In this regard the transit of citizens will be stopped. “The reconstruction of the "Kordai" checkpoint will begin in 2020, this will create some inconvenience for both sides. But I hope that the citizens of our countries will understand this and will use the nearby checkpoints. At the same time the checkpoint “Ak-Tilek” - “Kara-Suu” is designed to pass only cars with cargo, which will create certain problems on the bridge. This point was built in 1975, we must pay attention to it” - said Vladimir Bozhko, Deputy Chairman of the Mazhilis in his speech.

Deputy Toraga of the Jogorku Kenesh Mirlan Bakirov focused on expanding inter-parliamentary relations and developing tourism. “The closure of customs checkpoints should not create problems for the economies of our countries. We began to install special equipment on the border with China to control incoming cargo. There was a period when goods from China were re-registered for their delivery to the second and third countries. We are seeking to stop this. There can not be the problems that could not be solved between the Kyrgyz and Kazakh sides, since we have been fraternal peoples since ancient times, and in the future our relations should only be strengthened” M.Bakirov emphasized.

During the meeting the parties have also discussed the issues of expanding the trade turnover between the countries, combating corruption at the border. The Kazakh parliamentarians promised to convey the proposals expressed to the relevant executive bodies. At the meeting it was agreed that the next meeting of parliamentarians will be held in Kyrgyzstan.
