The first Kyrgyz-Korean inter-ministerial consultations were held in Seoul

The first round of Kyrgyz-Korean inter-ministerial consultations at the level of the supervising departments of the foreign ministries of the two countries was conducted on September 5, 2023 in Seoul. The Kyrgyz side was headed by the Director of the 2nd Political Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Meder Abakirov, the Korean side was headed by the Director General of the Department of European Countries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Choi Tae Ho.

The first Kyrgyz-Korean inter-ministerial consultations were held within the framework of the implementation of the Cooperation Program between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea until 2024, signed during the official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Zheenbek Kulubaev to the Republic of Korea in October 2022.

During the consultations, the sides discussed a wide range of Kyrgyz-Korean relations, as well as measures to further strengthen cooperation in the political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

Particular attention was paid to the importance of mutual exchange of visits at the highest and high levels, intensification of trade, economic and investment cooperation, expansion of the legal framework between the two countries, as well as further cooperation in the implementation of grant and technical projects under the Official Development Assistance (ODA) program of the Government of the Republic of Korea.

The heads of the supervising departments stressed the importance of interaction within the framework of the Central Asia-Republic of Korea Cooperation Forum at the level of ministers of foreign affairs.

In addition, within the framework of the inter-ministerial consultations, a bilateral meeting was held between the Director of the 2nd Political Department Meder Abakirov and the Director of the Climate Diplomacy Department of the Korean Foreign Ministry Cho Eunjeong, during which the sides discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of ecology, environmental protection and climate change.
