Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Edil Baisalov took part in the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development under the auspices of the ECOSOC, which is held from July 5 to 18, 2022 at the UN Headquarters in New York.

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baisalov made a presentation at the session "Messages from the regions" as the Chair of the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development for the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) region. In his speech, Edil Baisalov noted the importance of accelerating progress to achieve the SDGs and outlined the role of UNECE as the platform to forge cohesion, enhance policy coherence, and facilitate peer learning on sustainable development in the region.

Edil Baisalov also took part in the Ministerial Roundtable on ”Accelerating achievement of the SDGs by 2030: addressing on-going crises and overcoming challenges”. In his address from the main podium of the UN, he noted that Kyrgyzstan is committed to the implementation of the international sustainable development agenda and the global commitment to “leaving no one behind”. It was emphasized that the Sustainable Development Goals are integrated into the main documents of state development. He elaborated on the initiatives of the Kyrgyz Republic in the mountain agenda.

As a result of the High-Level Political Forum, a Ministerial Declaration will be adopted, in which the Kyrgyz side managed to include two operative paragraphs, in terms of mentioning the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development and the importance of preserving mountain ecosystems.

As part of the participation of Edil Baisalov in the Political Forum, several bilateral meetings were also held, in particular with the Under-Secretary-General and Associate Administrator of UNDP Usha Rao-Monari, during which current and relevant issues of international cooperation were discussed.
