Acting President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Zhaparov has signed constitutional Law of the Kyrgyz Republic "On amendments to the constitutional Law of the Kyrgyz Republic "On elections of President of the Kyrgyz Republic and deputies of Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic".

The law was adopted by Jogorku Kenesh on October 22, 2020.

This constitutional Law was developed in order to create legal conditions for expanding the representation of political forces representing the interests of citizens in Parliament by lowering the electoral threshold and the electoral pledge for political parties.

The adopted Law provides for the following:

- the submission of an application by citizens about their intention to change the electoral address on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic (Form 2) is eliminated. Only voters who live and reside outside of the Kyrgyz Republic are eligible to submit Form 2;

- the electoral deposit is returned to presidential candidates, political parties that nominated lists of candidates for deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh, who received at least 1 percent of the votes of voters who took part in the voting (previously there were at least 5%);

- the amount of the electoral Deposit for political parties that have put forward lists of candidates has been reduced from 5 million soms to 1 million soms;

- the electoral threshold has been lowered from 7% to 3%.

The law comes into force on the day of its official publication.
