On September 20, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the United Nations Secretariat building in New York (USA).

Before the meeting, the Head of State signed the UN Book of Records with best wishes for the organization.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, warmly welcoming Sadyr Zhaparov, noted that he has an emotional connection with Kyrgyzstan and he is glad that the Head of State is coming to participate in the General Debate of the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly.

He added that the Kyrgyz Republic is one of the first countries he visited as UN Secretary General.

Antonio Guterres emphasized that he supports Sadyr Zhaparov's initiatives to protect mountain ecosystems.

Touching upon the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik State border, the Secretary General expressed condolences to Sadyr Zhaparov in connection with the human casualties.

Antonio Guterres emphasized that he was looking forward to resolving the issue of the borders between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

President Sadyr Zhaparov thanked for the opportunity to discuss topical issues on the agenda of cooperation within the UN.

Sadyr Zhaparov recalled that Kyrgyzstan's partnership within the UN has turned 30 years old this year.

Over the past period, at the initiative of Kyrgyzstan, the General Assembly has adopted a solid block of resolutions on the most pressing issues on the international agenda.

Kyrgyzstan, as a responsible UN Member State, is committed to its international obligations and the Charter of the Organization.

As Sadyr Zhaparov noted, unfortunately, the meeting is taking place against the background of the unprovoked aggression on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.

He recalled that on September 14, 15 and 16, violating all previously reached agreements, the Tajik side attacked border and civilian facilities along the entire perimeter of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border.

The Head of State stressed that Kyrgyzstan highly appreciates the personal attention of the UN Secretary General and the support of Kyrgyzstan, expressing sincere gratitude for the assistance to the country.

President Sadyr Zhaparov said that Kyrgyzstan is currently promoting the idea of declaring 2023-2027 the "Five-year Anniversary of Actions for the Development of Mountain Regions" and put forward a draft resolution of the 77th session of the General Assembly on this.

In this connection, he appealed to multilateral financial institutions to invest in the creation of a Fund for the Development of Mountain countries, pay more attention to the problems of mountain countries and invest more funds in their solution.
