In Kyrgyzstan, 2022 has been declared the Year of Protection of Mountain Ecosystems and Climate Sustainability

President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov signed a Decree "On declaring 2022 the Year of Protection of Mountain Ecosystems and Climate Sustainability".

The Decree was signed in order to increase climate resilience, preserve natural heritage and hold the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development.

On the initiative of the Kyrgyz Republic, on December 16, 2021, the participants of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution declaring 2022 the "International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development".

Currently, the issues of promoting a number of other initiatives of the Kyrgyz Republic, announced by the Head of State in his messages at the UN General Assembly in New York and the Leaders' Climate Summit in Glasgow, are being worked out.
In 2019, the Kyrgyz Republic ratified the Paris Agreement as part of the implementation of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The commitments of the Kyrgyz Republic in 2021 were presented in the form of a "Nationally Determined Contribution", which is a plan to combat the effects of climate change and the country's contribution to global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

According to the updated "Nationally Determined Contribution", the Kyrgyz Republic has committed itself to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, in particular, by 2030, the country undertakes to reduce emissions by 15.97% of the emissions level under the "Business as Usual" scenario and by 43.62% with international support.

In addition, one of the priorities of the Action Plan of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic for the implementation of the National Development Program of the Kyrgyz Republic until 2026, approved by Resolution No. 352 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic dated December 25, 2021, are measures for climate sustainability and economic development in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which is a confirmation of the commitment of the Kyrgyz Republic to global goals in the field of ecology and climate, as well as continuing active work within the framework of the international climate agenda.

According to the Decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic has been instructed to develop and approve a Roadmap for the Year of Protection of Mountain Ecosystems and Climate Sustainability by March 1, 2022.

As part of the development of the Roadmap, issues of the implementation of environmental and climate measures and projects in agriculture, energy, industry, as well as projects for the development of forestry, ecotourism, emergency response, holding events at the international level, scientific and practical conferences, etc. are being considered.
