On April 21, 2021, Mr. R.Kazakbayev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic met with Mr. Shigeki Maeda, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kyrgyz Republic, Mr. Nemoto Naoyuki, Permanent Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in the Kyrgyz Republic and representatives of Japanese companies operating in the Kyrgyz Republic, in order to discuss issues of bilateral cooperation.

During the conversation, Minister R. Kazakbayev told the Japanese side about the domestic political and economic situation in Kyrgyzstan, and also outlined the immutability of the main directions of foreign policy, including in the development of partnership cooperation with Japan. The sides stressed the importance of further deepening of bilateral relations, including practical cooperation in the field of investment cooperation.

The Head of the Foreign Ministry noted the active work of the Japan International Cooperation Agency in the Kyrgyz Republic aimed at implementing important socio-economic projects, with a special emphasis on one of such successfully implemented projects "One village - one product".

As part of the ongoing work to create favorable business conditions in the Kyrgyz Republic, the Kyrgyz side reported on the measures taken to protect foreign investors and investments, in particular, in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic "On the protection of property and support for entrepreneurs and investors".

Touching upon issues in the field of trade, attracting investment, developing medicine, agriculture and the IT industry, Japanese Ambassador Shigeki Maeda demonstrated a presentation on economic diplomacy. Specific proposals were also made to expand business relations with Japan, including using the network of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).

The Permanent Representative of JICA in the Kyrgyz Republic, Nemoto Naoyuki, spoke about the main areas and programs of cooperation, the key policy of which is to support sustainable and balanced economic growth of the Kyrgyz Republic. In particular, N. Naoyukinformed about the ongoing work on the diversification of industry and job creation (promoting the export of agricultural products, the development of small and medium-sized businesses, industry and infrastructure for its diversification), as well as improving public administration and social services (training of public personnel, assistance in the digitalization of public administration, health issues, etc.).

A constructive dialogue was held with representatives of the Japanese business community, during which the topics of attracting investment, promoting Kyrgyz agricultural products to Japan, developing information technologies, employment of Kyrgyz citizens in Japan, concluding bilateral agreements, and creating favorable and preferential business conditions were discussed.

As a result of the event, the parties agreed to continue fruitful cooperation, accelerate the development of an agreement on the promotion and mutual protection of investments, as well as a memorandum in the field of labor migration between the two countries.
