On June 22, 2020, the Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Republic of Korea Dinara Kemelova hold a meeting with the Executive Director of Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) Chencho Norbu.

Mr. Chencho Norbu informed about this intergovernmental organization and the procedures for the Kyrgyz Republic to join this structure. In particular, AFoCO, with the financial assistance of the Government of Republic Korea, is implementing projects on forest conservation, research, climate change mitigation and training of specialists.

The sides discussed the prospects for cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and AFoCO in the field of environmental protection, including the conservation of biodiversity, afforestation.

For reference: AFoCO (Asian Forest Cooperation Organization) - is a regional mechanism for cooperation in the forest sector aimed at solving the problem of deforestation and forest conservation in the context of sustainable development. The creation of AFOCO was proposed by South Korea at the ASEAN-Republic of Korea anniversary Summit in 2009. Currently, AFoCO members are 14 states - the Republic of Korea, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, East Timor and Vietnam.
